Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi announced that Joel S. Gold, M/46, pleaded guilty today in state Superior Court in Camden, admitting he took money from customers for home remodeling jobs and failed to perform the work.
Under a plea agreement negotiated by Assistant Prosecutor Mark Chase, Gold pleaded guilty to Theft and faces a eight-year term in New Jersey State Prison when Superior Court Judge Thomas A. Brown Jr. sentences him on Oct. 8, 2004.
Investigation indicates that Gold, formerly of Churchill Road in Cherry Hill, stole from 51 victims in Camden, Burlington, Gloucester and Atlantic counties. Victim losses totaled in excess of $485,000, with individual losses ranging from $210 to $45,000.
As part of the plea agreement, Gold agreed to restitution in the form of civil judgments for each victim in the amount of his or her loss.
Gold operated under the company names Golden Eagle Home Remodeling and American Home Remodeling Co., both in Cherry Hill. His prosecution resulted from a joint investigation by Prosecutor's Offices in Camden, Burlington, Gloucester and Atlantic counties.
The defendant is being held in the Camden County Correctional Facility pending sentencing.
