Kathryn Barnett School of Dance Celebrates 25 Years of Dance in Red Bank
In 2008, the Kathryn Barnett School of Dance celebrates 25 years of dance in Red Bank. At the Studio, “It’s All About the Kids!” with children learning dance and developing inner character and strengths through their experience with the performing arts.
Kathryn Barnett joined Leah Mauer, the original owner of the Studio, in the late seventies, and purchased the Studio from her mentor in 1983 seeing enrollment increase to over 250 students today. “Dance has grown and changed by leaps and bounds since then.” With ballet, tap, jazz, musical theater, modern dance, and pointe, all programs are geared to age, ability, and experience at the Studio with teachers constantly upgrading the quality of instruction by continuing their own dance education. In addition to studio classes, the Kathryn Barnett School of dance provides an outreach program including dance and movement classes at The Red Bank Charter School and First Friends Nursery school.
In November 2008, The Barnett Traveling Troupe will be performing at Walt Disney World. This select group of performers competes in two dance competitions per year, as well as several community service and charity performances. The Barnett Dancers perform over 40 hours of community service a season through Holiday Express, senior citizens events, and other community performances. They have performed on the Today Show, Comcast, at the Meadowlands (For Our Heroes Concert with Bruce Springsteen) and at half time at the 76er's games.
The Starpower Sportsmanship Award is presented to the Studio that displays respect, courtesy, and support for other studios throughout the competition. For the third year, The Kathryn Barnett School of Dance in Red Bank NJ is the proud recipient of the Starpower Sportsmanship Award at the2007 Starpower Regional and Starbound Regional competition.
Kathryn Barnett is a seasoned dancer and dance teacher. Very involved with the revitalization of Red Bank as the Chairwoman of the Special Events Committee and Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Kathryn Barnett has been a dance instructor and choreographer for more than twenty years. Through the Studio, she supports annual Red Bank special events such as the Discover Parades and the Tree Lighting ceremony, and shares the performing arts through community activities such as hospital performances, lectures, and the Holiday Express annual fundraiser. With a Bachelor of Science Degree (Cum Laude) in Physical Education at Plymouth State College of the University of New Hampshire and a Master’s certificate from Dance Educators of America, Kathryn Barnett annually participates as a National Dance Competition Judge through a variety of competitions nationally.

The Kathryn Barnett School of Dance is dedicated to teaching life skills and appreciation of the arts through dance. All programs at the Kathryn Barnett School of Dance are geared toward age, experience, and performance.
